Synopsis

This masterclass will start off with a detailed discussion of the necessary knowledge about springs, such as calculation of a coil spring, the motion ratio between the main spring and the contact patch, pre-load, anti-roll bars, 3rd element springs, and even the spring rate by the gas pressure in the shock absorber.

The geometry will be discussed next, as this determines the positions of the roll centers and the pitch center, which in their turn determines the roll axis, roll arm and the pitch arm.

After that the design goals can be set, and the calculation of the spring rate is made. Then the frequencies can be evaluated. Finaly, calculation examples will then be made.

This four-hour, very pragmatic masterclass will provide participants with skills which can be used immediately after returning to the workshop! Participants will receive a very useful full-color copy of the slides for later reference.
