Alex Batan - Managing Composites

Alex Batan

COO and business partner, Managing Composites
Alex Batan brings a combination of motorsport mentality, high-performance vehicle engineering and real-world industrialization experience. An aerospace engineer by training, his involvement in performance vehicles started with Formula Student and MotoStudent, where his team received a Technological Innovation Award for its chassis and suspension design. He later moved into professional motorsport and high-performance automotive, working at Prodrive and McLaren Automotive before becoming one of the founders of Managing Composites. At McLaren, he was involved in the development and industrialization of advanced composite structures, including new RTM composite platforms, lightweight structures and HV battery enclosures at the company's Sheffield facility. His career has subsequently evolved from engineering individual components into managing complete vehicle programs: balancing engineering ambition with timing, manufacturing feasibility, quality, cost, suppliers and ultimately getting parts onto real cars. At Managing Composites, Batan now operates at exactly that intersection. The company works with hypercar, performance automotive, aerospace and other advanced-mobility programs, taking projects from early concept and engineering through industrialization, manufacturing and vehicle delivery. That gives Batan a particularly relevant perspective for the PMW audience: how to retain the speed, pragmatism and performance-driven mindset of motorsport while developing products that ultimately need to become reliable, manufacturable and, in many cases, road legal.
