Developing a clean sheet high performance battery pack is a costly and time consuming endeavour. Many motorsport teams and OEMs utilizing hybrid powertrains cannot afford the level of investment required, often incorporating suboptimal solutions. This presentation explains the development by Ricardo of a high-power, high-performance, modular and scalable battery system to enable fast turnarounds of tailoring to customer vehicles. The AMBERS platform features very high power density using 21700 battery cells, and an integrated water/glycol cooling system. The modular architecture allows Ricardo to customise a pack to different vehicle layouts with minimum engineering effort. The presentation Ricardo will review the technology and the performance that can be achieved with power density capability of up to 8.3kW/kg.
